The New Panamera Premieres at the Beijing Auto Show, Presenting the Charm of Porsche's Luxury SedanPorsche’s full model line-up at Beijing Auto Show

Shanghai/Beijing. The 2020 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition is being held from 26 September to 5 October. Porsche is presenting its full model line-up, with the brightest highlights undoubtedly being the new Panamera Turbo S and the new Panamera 4S E-Hybrid Executive. Ten years ago, the Panamera brought Porsche’s unmistakable sportiness and elegance into the luxury sedan segment, and has since received positive market feedback throughout its two generations. The new Panamera has been comprehensively revamped in terms of design, performance and comfort, succeeding in serving as an even better marriage between a sports car and a luxury sedan. Following the livestream world premiere not long ago, the new Panamera has now had its offline premiere at the Beijing Auto Show in China.

Porsche’s first fully-electric sports car is also present at the Porsche booth with the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan, showcasing the flawless integration of sports car performance and innovative technology. The new 911 Targa 4 has its Beijing premiere, further demonstrating the classic aesthetics that have been popular for half a century in design and driving. The full line-up fully on display affirms the positive ethos of Porsche China in the post-pandemic period. Dr. -Ing Jens Puttfarcken, President and CEO of Porsche China, stated: “China is the first country in the world to emerge from the shadow of the pandemic, and is a strong driving force to help Porsche get back on track. Porsche will face the future with confidence, actively invest and develop, and provide Chinese customers with products and services that exceed expectations. This is why we chose to showcase the greatly-anticipated new Panamera in Beijing before anywhere else in the world.”

As the most important market of the Porsche Panamera, China has constantly given the luxury sedan attention and appreciation. Sales of the second generation of the Panamera is 85% higher than its predecessor. Young customers in particular have shown their love for the Panamera. Its comfort and sense of luxury have received a positive response from the Chinese market, especially the Executive version which accounts for 40% of Panamera sales so far. Up to 40% of Panamera delivered to China in 2019 were Customer Specific Vehicles, indicating the ever-stronger desire for individualisation among Chinese customers. Now its success story will be continued by the new Panamera with its comprehensive upgrades.

The new Panamera: Luxury sedan

Last month, the new Panamera had its virtual world premiere and was opened for orders in China. Nine derivatives are available in the first batch, covering rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, combustion and plug-in hybrid, as well as three body types of standard wheelbase, long wheelbase and Sport Turismo, to satisfy customer needs.

In regards to performance, the range of power outputs has been further extended and power ladders have been optimised. The new Panamera Turbo S offers 80 PS more power than the previous flagship Turbo. The new Panamera GTS comes with 20 PS more power than its predecessor. And the newly added Panamera 4S E-Hybrid models deliver a system output of 560 PS. The driving dynamics and comfort are noticeably increased by optimising all chassis systems. Together with better precision and cornering stability, the new Panamera also boasts enhancements to its already enviable comfort on longer journeys.

When it comes to design, both the exterior and interior of the new Panamera has been modified, underlining the sense of luxury as a top-class sedan in every detail. The new Panamera Turbo S has a new front, while the SportDesign front package comes standard for all other derivatives, and the rear has now adopted Porsche’s typical light strip design. All these targeted design measures sharpen the product identity of the new Panamera. More new colours and wheel designs are available to cater to the large personalisation demand of Panamera customers. The interior of the new Panamera builds on the architecture of its predecessor: neat, classic and elegant. The new generation of multifunctional steering wheels with lightweight construction inspired by motorsports further enhance the elegance. The upgraded Porsche Communication Management (PCM) includes Online-Navigation, online voice control Voice Pilot, Apple® CarPlay, wireless Internet access as well as numerous digital functions and services. The faster computing processes and the touchscreen with higher resolution keep the operation of all major functions hassle-free.

An extensive range of state-of-the-art lighting and assistance systems emphasise the class and quality of the luxury sedan. The new Panamera models are now equipped as standard with Lane Keep Assist. The Adaptive Cruise Control, Night View Assist, Lane Change Assist, LED Matrix main headlights including PDLS Plus, ParkAssist including Surround View and Head-Up Display, are also available as options for better comfort and safety.

Taycan: Electric Pioneer

Porsche’s first fully-electric sports car Taycan series now has four derivatives available, ably covering wide market needs. The Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S have been gradually delivered to Chinese customers. The Taycan rear-wheel drive will arrive at dealerships at the end of this year.

As the pinnacle of Porsche’ sports car development and electrification innovation, the Taycan has set new standards in the fully-electric sports car segment, perfectly balancing driving pleasure and everyday usability. The 800-volt technology from the LeMans winning 919 Hybrid race car ensures consistently high performance and shorter charging time. The unique two-speed transmission on the rear axle contributes to excellent acceleration from a standing start and high-speed driving performance. With Launch Control, the flagship Taycan Turbo S delivers an overboost power of 560 kW (761 PS), and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The Taycan two-wheel drive is available with two battery sizes: The power output is up to 300 kW (408 PS) with the Performance Battery or up to 350 kW (476 PS) with the Peformance Battery Plus (overboost power with Launch Control in each case). Both accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds with Launch Control. Every Taycan derivatives enables to reproduce its impressive acceleration multiple times in succession without any drop in power.

The range of Taycan rear-wheel drive is up to 414 km with the Performance battery and up to 489 km with the Performance battery Plus (in accordance with NEDC in each case). The Taycan Turbo S boasts a similarly high range of 388-412 km (WLTP). The mileage display inside the car is calculated based on various factors that have an impact on energy consumption, thus every Taycan is able to indicate a reliable and practical range value in car, which over time will gradually match the individual driving profile of each car owner. Outstanding aerodynamics and best-in-class recuperative power further improve its energy efficiency. Porsche professional chassis technology brings the Taycan both the precise handling of a sports car and long-distance comfort, suitable for diverse driving conditions.

The new 911 Targa: Style icon

The new 911 Targa continues to successfully demonstrate its unique, classic aesthetic, and carries out a modern interpretation of refined taste and driving pleasure. The combination of its wide rear and Targa roll bar, as well as its dome-shaped back window, emphasise the dynamic appearance of this iconic Porsche vehicle concept. The optimised roof can be opened or closed fully automatically in 19 seconds, with noise and thermal protection.

A host of cutting-edge technologies adopted from the eighth generation of the 911 Carrera improve the performance and everyday usability. The turbocharged three-litre six-cylinder boxer engine provides improved performance in two states of tune: the engine in the 911 Targa 4 produces 283 kW (385 PS) with a maximum torque of 450 Nm, and the 911 Targa 4S boasts 331 kW (450 PS) with a maximum torque of 530 Nm. With the Sport Chrono package, both versions are able to reach the 100 km/h mark in 4.2 seconds and 3.6 seconds respectively. Both sports cars are fitted with the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) and intelligent all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) as standard, as well as the innovative Porsche Wet mode, delivering maximum driving pleasure while ensuring better comfort and safety.

Porsche full line-up: Diversified sportiness

The classic mid-engine sportscar Porsche 718, the stylish yet sporty SUV Macan, the plug-in hybrid model Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupé, and Porsche’s first fully-electric race car 99X Electric, which has already successfully claimed a spot on the Formula E podium, are all in attendance at the Porsche booth, presenting a feast for the eyes and driving enthusiasts. For spectators unable to witness the physical world premiere of the new Panamera in person, Porsche will broadcast exciting videos online throughout the auto show.
